Star Wars

This page gives a description of the steps Allen used to create the Star Wars Intro using Hollywood FX Plus. Please do not e-mail asking how I did it as everything I remember is included on this page.

Method

1. Notes

bulletI got the idea for this from Jos Roijakkers on the Pinnacle webboard. Thank you Jos for your contribution.
bulletI will not be providing every detail of how to do this as I believe it is best to work through some of the issues. It will help you on your projects in the future. If I’ve left something out that really stumps you then check the Pinnacle webboard.
bulletHollywood FX transitions take a long time to render so you’ll need to be patient.

2. The Star Wars title

bulletBegin a new project and call it “Star Wars Title”
bulletDrag your favorite photo that contains nothing but stars in it to the video timeline. I’ll refer to this as the “star” background. Click Here to download the one I used. Set the time to 11 seconds exactly.
bulletOn the TitleDeko line create a transparent background and add Star Wars for the text and set it to 11 seconds. Click Here to download the Star Wars font.
bulletHighlight your title and set the font size to 124.
bulletSelect the look style of 10-3.
bulletFrom the HFX Flying Windows group select the FlyOff effect and drag it to the front of your title. Set the transition length to the maximum of 10:29.
bulletDouble-click the transition and select edit.
bulletSelect Basic Options and deselect lighting and shine.
bulletI’m fuzzy on what exactly I did for the next part of this. Based on what I see it looks like I deleted Host Video 1 and Flat 1.
bulletSelect Back 2 and delete the current envelope.
bulletEnter the following Object Options at 0 percent
1) Move 0.000, 0.010, 0.000
2) Rotate 0.000, 0.000, 0.000
3) Scale 2.500, 2.500, 0.000
bulletEnter the following Object Options at 100 percent
1) Move 0.000, 0.010, 0.000
2) Rotate 0.000, 0.000, 0.000
3) Scale 0.000, 0.000, 0.000
bulletRender this as a DV AVI and it will be ready for use in your final project.

3. The Scrolling Text

bulletBegin a new project and call it “Star Wars Intro”.
bulletDrag your star photo to the video timeline and set the length to 1:12:00.
bulletOn the TitleDeko line create a rolling title with a transparent background. Click Here to download the text. Paste this into your blank title. Choose a font; I used Times New Roman. Set the time to 1:12:00.
bulletFrom the HFX Flying Windows group select the FlyOff effect and drag it to the front of your title. Set the transition length to the maximum of 1:11:29.
bulletDouble-click the transition and select edit.
bulletSelect Basic Options and deselect lighting and shine.
bulletSelect Flat 1 and delete the current envelope.
bulletEnter the following Object Options at 0 and 100 percent
1) Move 0.000, 0.510, 0.000
2) Rotate -60.000, 0.000, 0.000
3) Scale 0.800, 1.500, 0.500
bulletSelect Back 2 and delete the current envelope.
bulletEnter the following Object Options at 0 and 100 percent
1) Move 0.000, 0.010, 0.000
2) Rotate 0.000, 0.000, 0.000
3) Scale 2.500, 2.500, 0.000
bulletRender this as a DV AVI and it will be ready for use in your final project.

4. Putting it all together

bulletBegin a new project and call it “Star Wars Final”.
bulletOn the video timeline add a title with a solid black background with the text “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away...” Choose a blue color for the font. Set the time to 6:00.
bulletAdd the Star Wars Title you created earlier. Trim extra frames.
bulletAdd a Fade in or out between the two previous clips.
bulletAdd the Star Wars Intro you created earlier. Trim extra frames.
bulletAdd the star background on the video timeline and set to 2:00.
bulletAdd the planet (Tatooine in the original. I think mine is from neptune). Click Here to download. Set the length to 4:00.
bulletAdd the Push Up transition between the star background and the planet. Set it to 3:00.
bulletAdd a Fade-in to the beginning and a Fade-out to the end.
bulletAdd the Star Wars Theme song. Click Here to download. This needs to be lined up with the beginning of the Star Wars Title.
bulletRender to your favorite format.
bulletImpress your friends.
